All the activities that are offered in the GymbaROO program encourage and promote your toddler and baby’s natural developmental movement patterns. Ever since the start of time, babies from birth have moved in the same natural pattern, without intervention. Through modern-day conveniences (such as walkers and baby bounces), babies are now less exposed to the opportunities that nature intended them to move have to move naturally.

With interventions such as contoured prams (v-shaped prams restrict movement verses flat-bed prams) and the capsule, a baby's opportunities for movement are more prohibited. By balancing your modern-day conveniences with more opportunity for your little one to move naturally – your baby will be allowed to develop and grow through their natural movement patterns.

At GymbaROO we will show you how.

Toddlers will engage in activities designed to help improve their balance, muscle tone, motor skills and confidence, as well as nurture their natural desire to independently explore their world.

Our School Readiness and Kinder Readiness programs help children reinforce their new skills brought about by the lateralisation of their brain. They also learn to work together in groups, follow instructions independently, and improve their language skills. The aim of all our programs, is to ensure that the children are properly developing all areas required for successful learning.

By progressing naturally through natural movement patterns, each child will be assisted in building strength and muscle tone - which will facilitate their next developmental stage.

Each stage builds a foundation for the next development stage. During each stage’s movement patterns, neural pathways are stimulated by this natural movement, and therefore facilitates the appropriate development of the brain.

Non-Mobile Babies (6 weeks to 7 months)

Duration: 45 mins

Our classes for non-mobile babies place the emphasis on massage, reflex inhibition, gentle vestibular stimulation and muscle tone.

  • Massage is great for building muscle tone, and it also strengthens the bond between the baby and the carer.
  • There is emphasis on gentle vestibular stimulation, body awareness and muscle tone.
  • We also have a look at their early reflex inhibition.

Music plays a very important role in these lessons in terms of language development and temporal awareness. We have precious equipment time for their motor skills which integrate all they have learnt through their senses.

This is a baby / parent focused class where the parents are given crucial knowledge, both written and verbal, in order to facilitate the natural development of their babies.

Creeper Crawler / Bal- Crawlers (7 to 12 months)

Duration: 45 mins

Whether your baby is or isn’t crawling or creeping, this is the ideal time to progress into our "crawler" class.

Whilst we still do exercises and massage, we place less emphasis on massage and more on auditory and visual activities, body awareness - as your child starts to take part in our singing and other musical activities.

They will do lots of exploring and crawling, which will equip them with both the confidence and skills to move into the walking stage. We do ladder-work to help them build the necessary muscles for walking.

They need adjustment of visual perception, new balancing skills and increased muscle tone. In this class, they will take part in musical activities by swaying, rocking or singing. We also introduce our popular Treasure Bag activities – a favourite with the babies.

Our classes will give parents and carers a number of ideas for activities to do at home that will continue their journey of development – all while having fun (just like a GymbaROO).

Fairy Penguins (10 to 14 months)

Duration: 45 mins

This is a transitional stage - your baby has started standing up, and wants to cruise along furniture and walls (as well as crawling). They may be ready to attend our Fairy Penguins class.

At this stage, some babies may be capable of taking a few wobbly steps all on their own, while others may be walking (with your assistance). As they waddle around like 'Fairy Penguins', they are busy establishing their body awareness and balance. We introduce essential skills to help them with this, as well as increase their muscle tone. We introduce them to our large equipment, which present a bigger challenge in order to encourage confidence in their climbing abilities.

Even though this is a fun and exciting time, they might experience some frustration when attempting to learn these new skills! As your 1-year old baby can more or less move in an upright position, he / she needs to adjust both hearing and vision - as they are now hearing and seeing the world from a different perspective. It can be hard work for our little ones to adjust, which is one of the reasons that your child may not be able to advance his speech yet at this age. From 13 to 18 months, your children are busy learning a lot about themselves and the world around them (like how their limbs work).

Penguins (1 to 1.5 years)

Duration: 45 mins

Infants are now waddling (much like penguins), as they strive to achieve their balance and body awareness. Our little ones are upright at last, but their ears and eyes must still adjust for seeing and understanding.

Our classes at this age are aimed at developing muscle tone by hanging by their hands, walking, wheelbarrows and steps. During our mat time, we actively encourage the babies to use their own fingers in finger plays, as well as independently the use of musical instruments independently.

Once an infant is walking, we suggest activities and ideas for parents which can increase baby’s balance mechanisms as well as strengthen their muscle tone.

Koalas (1.5 to 2.5 Years)

Duration : 45 mins

At this age, children have more balance and are more confident at walking, as well as running and climbing. In terms of development, we know they are in the bi-lateral stage – which means that both sides of their bodies are now working together. They have improved muscle control, as well as hand skills (in terms of control and focus).

During our mat-time, the children are encouraged to listen to an instruction, as well as respond. We introduce specific ball skills that will be worked on each week. We also start to incorporate finger plays and activities, which again requires listening and responding to an instruction – for example jumping, clapping or balancing.

We also include activities in this class which require them to use right / left independently. When they reach 18 months of age, the toddlers should have wonderful focus and control with their hand skills. All of our activities are aimed at developing and strengthening these skills, since children now have control over how to release an object they are holding.

The two-year old year is a very important time of change for both behaviour speech and fine motor skills. Our Koala classes set the groundwork for this transition into the next development stage - laterality.

Wallaby / Kangaroo (2 to 3 Years)

Duration: 45 mins

The Wallaby / Kangaroo classes are more structured, as at this age the children start improving their concentration, and learning limits.

An important aspect of this year of change, is the development of your child’s speech and fine motor skills. Their hand grip is now ready for a pencil grip. Also, as mentioned earlier, they are now into the next development stage - called laterality.

In these classes, the kids enjoy puzzles and games that involve their eyes guiding their hands, as well as moving objects from one side to another (crossing the midline). For this age group, repetition is vital.

We also introduce the concept of performing different activities with each limb - which is fully explored with musical instruments. Their sensory integration is also developing, and a preferred foot and hand is now required.

Possums (3 to 4 Years)

Duration: 60 mins

The Possums class is our program for Kinder Readiness. It allows for sensory motor stimulation and greater teamwork, and promotes further laterality and sensory integration.

The children are again encouraged to follow instructions, and work in groups. This is the perfect opportunity for the children to perfect their abilities in cross pattern action - skipping along, catching, throwing, and hopping for balance.

The areas where instructions are required now increase in terms of complexity. Again, repetition is vital for their neural pathways to open up. We use sensory motor stimulation and teamwork on our large equipment to develop their laterality and sensory integration. Early reading will also be introduced.

School Readiness (4 to 5 Years)

Duration: 60 mins

GymbaROO’s activities have helped establish the groundwork for early reading / writing and preschool / school. As the children’s control over all of their muscle groups is strengthened and fine-tuned, they can start focusing on their language skills.

Mat-time activities are now aimed at polishing these skills, with a set of more challenging tasks. Their ball skills are far improved, and hand- eye coordination is also more focused. During this course, we have a new routine, one that is better suited to your child's developing skills. We increase the overall complexity and number of instructions, which boosts their concentration time.

At this age, children learn about working in groups - to line up as well as follow the leader. We start our "Jump into Reading Program" with the kids. Ours sessions include memory activities, counting and visual exercises. In addition to the overall term them, a sub theme is introduced – which further develops these skills.

The all-important large equipment time is still present - where by now they love jumping on trampolines, climbing ladders and hanging upside down. During this period, they start consolidating all of the previously learned skills, and polish them to enhance their early preschool experience.
